How to Choose a Mattress and Achieve Your Best Sleep

Many people don’t know this, but using the right mattress can make a huge difference in whether you get the good night’s rest you need and deserve or not. If you’re in the market for a new mattress, it’s a great idea to do your research about mattresses in general.

Doing so will allow you to better advocate for your interests – sales people don’t always know what you really need – and it’ll help you figure out what questions you need to ask when buying your mattress. There are mattresses for people who like to sleep on their sides, mattresses for people who have back aches and even some mattresses for couples who prefer different firmness levels!

While you read this article to find out how to choose the right mattress for yourself, this article shows you how different kinds of mattresses all have a little bit of one feature or the other in them – you need to determine how important certain features like heat conductivity are to you and then base your decisions on that.

Mattress Material

This is important – all mattresses aren’t made of the same stuff, and their material really makes each type of mattress stand out. Here are some of the most common types:

  • Memory foam mattresses are known for their ability to mild themselves according to the user’s body shape.
  • Air mattresses are great for couples who want different firmness levels to sleep on – by regulating the air inside the mattress you can choose how soft or how firm you want it to be.
  • Then there are spring mattresses that are pretty bouncy. They’re made by putting springs in special pockets inside the mattress and then putting a layer of soft material on top.
  • Water beds are mattresses filled with water.
  • Hybrid mattresses are made with a combination of different materials. This helps them have some of the best features from all the different mattress types, and many people prefer them because of it.

This list is nowhere near finished and there are countless other mattress types out there, like latex mattresses and SomniGel mattresses.

Firmness Level

The easiest way to explain firmness level is that if you prefer to feel like you’re sleeping on a mattress, you prefer firm mattresses, but if you prefer to feel like you’re sleeping in a mattress, you need a soft mattress.

This firmness is measured on a scale of 1 to 10 – 1 being the softest mattress available, and 10 being the firmest.

Mattress firmness matters because while firm mattresses provide more support to your body and your muscles during the night, sleeping on a mattress that is too firm for you can leave you with an aching body. The same can be said about soft mattresses – they’re not great at supporting your body either and your muscles might be working hard keeping you aloft, resulting in back and neck aches. If you are looking for a mattress with support and comfort at the heart of its design then you may want to consider a sealy mattress. Sealy mattresses are orthopedic, meaning they support the whole body and alleviate back pain giving you the a comfortable sleep. MyNextMattress stock a wide range of sealy mattresses.

This is why we suggest you try out a mattress before buying it. For most people, a medium firm mattress seems to work just fine.

Edge Support

If you feel like you’re always falling off your bed, you might need a mattress with good edge support. This is an especially important thing if you don’t want your mattress quality harming your sex life.

Bounciness

A lot of people prefer that their mattresses have a certain level of bounce to them – this is again a great feature to have in your mattress for a great sex life.

Heat Conductivity

A mattress’s ability to keep you cool on the hot days and keep you warm when it’s cold is one of the most important things when you choose your mattress.

Being too cold or too hot during the night can ruin your sleep, and consequently your quality of life as well.

Make sure to ask your salesperson about all these mattress features and keep your needs in mind. If you’re buying a mattress online, make sure you check their reviews on an independent platform or website, and know all about their trial and return policies.
